Joke of the day

Life has its way of surprising us, sometimes even in the most serious of moments. And nothing proves it better than this story of an old man on his deathbed, who managed to leave everyone laughing instead of crying.

An elderly man was lying weakly in his bed, his time clearly drawing near. Around him stood his loving wife, his three grown children, and a nurse who had cared for him for months. The atmosphere was heavy, the family waiting in silence for his final words.

The man slowly opened his eyes and, with all the strength he had left, began to speak.

“Bill, my son… you get the Beverly Hills houses.”
“Mary, my sweet daughter… the offices in the Center Center are yours.”
“Debra, my youngest… the apartments over the L.A. Plaza are all yours.”

Then, turning to his wife, his voice softened with affection.
“And my dear, loyal wife… you take all the residential buildings near downtown.”

The nurse’s eyes widened in shock. She leaned closer to the wife and whispered, “Wow! Your husband must have been an incredible man to have amassed so much property to leave behind. I had no idea he was such a wealthy businessman!”

The wife let out a tired sigh, gave a small smile, and replied,
“Wealthy? Oh no, dear… he’s just talking about his newspaper route.”

The nurse blinked in disbelief. “Wait… you mean all these years, you never owned any of that property?”

The wife chuckled softly. “Owned? The only thing he ever owned was a rusty bicycle, two pairs of sneakers with holes in them, and a bag full of rubber bands from rolled-up papers.”

At that moment, the old man coughed, lifted his head for one last breath of strength, and whispered:
“…And don’t forget… Wednesday’s route goes to Debra too… she owes me for all those times I covered for her.”

The family burst into laughter through their tears. The nurse shook her head in amazement. Here was a man, facing his very last moments, and instead of sadness, he left his loved ones with a story they would never forget.

Sometimes, the greatest legacy isn’t property, wealth, or business empires. Sometimes, it’s laughter, love, and a sense of humor that outlives us all.

Moral of the story: You don’t need millions to leave something behind. A good laugh can be the richest inheritance of all.
