Every night, just after midnight, Nadia would wake up to the faint sound of running water. At first, she thought it was the noise of the old pipes in their house or maybe the wind stirring something outside. But soon, she realized it was always the same sound, always at the same time, and always coming from the bathroom.
Her husband, Arif, had a strange habit: whenever he got thirsty at night, he refused to walk to the kitchen. Instead, he stumbled half-asleep into the bathroom, turned on the tap, and drank straight from it. To him, water was water—simple, same, no difference.
To Nadia, however, this was deeply suspicious.
One night she finally asked him, “Arif, why don’t you just go to the kitchen? At least the water there is filtered!”
Arif yawned and shrugged. “Water is water. It’s all coming from the same place. You worry too much.”
But Nadia was not convinced. Years of listening to health tips from her mother, aunties, neighbors, and every WhatsApp group in existence had trained her to be cautious. Bathroom water, in her mind, was a big no.
She tried everything to convince him:
“Arif, the bathroom pipes are older!”
“What if bacteria grows inside?”
“What if something gets mixed in the overhead tank?”
“Do you want to get sick because you’re too lazy to walk 15 steps?”
Arif laughed every time. “You watch too many health videos. Nothing will happen.”
But Nadia wasn’t giving up. She decided she would prove it once and for all.
The Night of The Great Investigation
One Saturday night, after Arif fell asleep, Nadia set up a mission. With a notebook in one hand and her phone’s flashlight in the other, she marched to the bathroom like a detective entering a crime scene.
She inspected every corner: the tap, the sink, the pipes under it, even the corners where dust collected. She turned on the tap and watched the water flow as if it would suddenly reveal its secrets.
“Hmm…” she murmured dramatically. “Suspicious.”
Then she went to the kitchen and filled a glass with filtered water. She placed both samples on the counter. After staring at them like a scientist preparing for an experiment, she called Arif.
Half-asleep and confused, he walked in rubbing his eyes.
“Why are you awake? And why are there two glasses like some talent show audition?”
“Sit,” Nadia ordered. “Tonight, we settle this.”
Arif blinked. “Settle what?”
“The Bathroom Tap Mystery.”
She handed him the first glass. “Kitchen water.”
Then she handed him the second. “Bathroom water.”
He drank both without hesitation.
“So?” she asked, leaning forward.
“Tastes the same,” he said without emotion.
Nadia groaned. “This is not a taste test! This is about safety!”
Arif laughed. “Nadia, our house is connected to the same main water line. The tap in the bathroom and the tap in the kitchen get the same water. The only difference is one goes through the filter.”
“And?” Nadia challenged.
“And I trust my stomach more than that filter which needs cleaning every month… and someone forgets to clean it.”
Nadia froze. “Hey! That is not the point!”
But Arif only smiled, hugged her gently, and said, “Fine, fine. For your peace of mind, I’ll stop drinking from the bathroom.”
Nadia sighed in relief—finally, victory!
But the story didn’t end there…
The next night, Nadia woke up again to the sound of running water.
She slowly got up, walked to the bathroom, and opened the door.
Arif stood there, drinking water.
But this time… from a bottle he had secretly kept on the bathroom shelf.
He looked at her with a guilty smile. “See? Problem solved. No kitchen walk.”
Nadia couldn’t help laughing.
In that moment, she realized something important:
Sometimes, the biggest battles in marriage are not about water, but about the little habits that make life funny, unpredictable, and beautifully human.
And from that day on, the bathroom bottle remained—clean, safe, and always full.
Because in the end, Nadia didn’t want to change Arif.
She only wanted him healthy… and hydrated.
